A Liriope Majestic border generally has the plants just touching when they reach their mature size. if you want them to grow as a unique plant, they will need to be spaced at least 40 cm apart. The Liriope Majestic spacing for having them merging to a limited degree is 25-30 cm apart. If the planting is going to involve more than one row, the planting should be alternated such that the second row is offset to the first row. This creates a better look overall. Similarly, use a stick or tape measure to help get the spacings correct.

When is the best time to plant Liriope Majestic?

While Liriope Majestic can be planted any time of the year, spring, winter and autumn are generally the best times. Planting during these seasons allows the plants to establish before the heat of summer arrives. You can still plant in summer provided careful attention is paid to watering.

Liriope Majestic pruning

Pruning of Liriope Majestic generally involves removing spent leaves. However, it can also be undertaken to rejuvenate an older plant. Pruning of this nature is generally undertaken in late spring or summer when the plants are actively growing. They are trimmed back to about 5 cm above ground level. New shoots will begin to grow away within 2-3 weeks. You can trim plants back in winter also but note that new shoots may not start to emerge until conditions warm in spring.

Liriope Majestic care

The most important part of Liriope Majestic care is to make sure they have a well-drained soil that does not become waterlogged at any time. This, along with over-watering, are the main causes of plants to fail to perform or die. The next critical elements are weed control and The Plant Company recommends an organic mulch is spread around the plants after planting. They should be fed in spring with a general fertiliser. At this time any dead leaves can be removed. The plants are generally not trimmed aside from removing unsightly leaves. They rarely suffer from any pests or diseases but you may want to keep an eye out for mealy bugs. Overall, they are a very easy plant to care for.
