Baumea juncea, commonly known as the Bare Twig Rush, is a NZ native rush grown for its aesthetics and ability to colonise extremely wet soils. The roots of this grass spread such that it can easily colonise an area of 1 m in three years as it grows to 1 m tall. Baumea juncea is a favoured plant among landscape designers constructing wetland areas and also great for revegetation plantings.

Baumea juncea Details

Baumea juncea, commonly known as the Bare Twig Rush, is a NZ native rush grown for its aesthetics and ability to colonise extremely wet soils. The roots of this grass spread such that it can easily colonise an area of 1 m in three years as it grows to 1 m tall. The leaves are blue-grey with copper flower heads produced through summer. It grows best in full sun in almost any soil condition except extreme dry and will tolerate frost and cool climates. It will happily grow in fresh or salt water (e.g., dams, swamps, creeks, and drainage areas) up to 1 m deep. Baumea juncea is a favoured plant among landscape designers constructing wetland areas and also great for revegetation plantings.
