Baumea rubiginosa Details

Baumea rubiginosa, commonly known as the Orange Nut Sedge, is a vigorous, NZ native rush that features slender, green foliage. Red-brown seed heads are borne during summer above the foliage which adds an interesting element to this plant. It is generally found in swampy areas where its roots enable it to spread to 1.5 m wide as it grows to 1 m high. This Sedge prefers wet conditions, plenty of space, and a full sun position. It will, however, tolerate frost, cool climates, and exposed positions. Baumea rubiginosa is commonly used to revegetate wetlands but can also be used around pond edges, alongside streams, or in boggy areas. In recent years it is also being increasingly used in landscaping projects to bring interesting texture and colour to plantings.
