Carex Segde

The Carex Sedge, Carex lessoniana, is a hardy, NZ native grass that spreads quickly through wetland areas. It has creeping rhizomes that make this grass an excellent stabiliser of stream banks and similar areas. The bright green foliage has a sharp edge and the plant typically grows to 1 m tall and 2 m wide. It grows best when planted in full sun on wetter soils but it will tolerate periods of dry, some shade, as well as moderate frost. The Carex Sedge is commonly used for environmental plantings such as establishing or restoring wetland areas, riparian areas, or planting around pond and stream margins.
