Chionochloa conspicua, commonly known as Snowgrass or Snow Tussock, is a hardy, NZ native, ornamental grass. It grows as a large tussock with long, arching, mid-green leaves tinged red-brown to about 1.6 m tall and 1.2 m wide. Chionochloa conspicua is often used for wetland revegetation it is also very effective in large gardens or for planting around water features such as ponds and streams. That said, Snowgrass does make a fabulous addition to a garden.

Chionochloa conspicua, commonly known as Snowgrass or Snow Tussock, is a hardy, NZ native, ornamental grass. It grows as a large tussock with long, arching, mid-green leaves tinged red-brown. Plants bear showy, cream coloured flower heads in summer that age to brown. It typically reaches 1.6 m tall and 1.2 m wide and grows well in a range of soil types from boggy to well-drained. It prefers to grow in full sun or partial shade and will tolerate dry periods as well as frost and wind. While Chionochloa conspicua is often used for wetland revegetation it is also very effective in large gardens or for planting around water features such as ponds and streams.
