Chondropetalum tectorum, commonly known as Thatching Reed or Small Cape Rush, grows as a dense clump of dark green stems. The foliage is complemented with small, brown flowers which are borne as clusters as it grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. Chondropetalum tectorum is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted around the edge of water features, in borders, or grown anywhere the aesthetics of this plant can be appreciated.
