It gets its name from the silver-coloured flower head at the end of each green stem which gives the appearance of a fibre optic thread. It grows as a tidy clump to about 25 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in a moist soil that drains well in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of moderate frost and wind.
