Juncus edgariae is the most prevalent species of Rush in New Zealand and grows as a tight clump with bright green, stem-like leaves. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide but will spread to colonise a larger area with time. Juncus edgariae is commonly used in riparian and wetland plantings but is also included in modern gardens where it is used in borders and mixed plantings.

Juncus edgariae Details

Juncus edgariae is the most prevalent species of Rush in New Zealand. This native is commonly found in open scrub, wet areas of pasture, or around the edges of wetlands. It grows as a tight clump with bright green, stem-like leaves. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide but will spread to colonise a larger area with time. It grows best in heavy, wet soils that do not dry out, and is tolerant of dry periods, frost, coastal environments, and wind. Juncus edgariae is commonly used in riparian and wetland plantings but is also included in modern gardens where it is used in borders and mixed plantings.
