Creeping Lilyturf

Creeping Lilyturf is the common name for Liriope spicata and is grown for its pretty flowers and tidy foliage. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump and produces arching, strap like, dark green leaves. Short stems carrying masses of tiny, pale lavender-white flowers emerge amidst the foliage during summer and result in black berries in autumn. It typically grows to 45 cm tall and the same wide but will spread to colonise a much larger area over time. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Creeping Lily Turf tolerates cool climates, moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. During winter it may die back in colder regions to regrow in spring when conditions warm, but otherwise it remains evergreen. Liriope spicata is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, border plantings, or using as a groundcover. It is best showcased with a mass planting on a bank or the like.
