Orange Nut Sedge, Baumea rubiginosa
Machaerina rubiginosa, commonly known as the Orange Nut Sedge, is a vigorous, NZ native rush that features slender, green foliage. Red-brown seed heads are borne during summer above the foliage as it grows to 1.5 m wide and 1 m high. Machaerina rubiginosa is commonly used to revegetate wetlands but can also be used around pond edges, alongside streams, or in boggy areas. In recent years it is also being increasingly used in landscaping projects to bring interesting texture and colour to plantings.
