Machaerina sinclairii, commonly known as the Broadleaf Sedge or Pepepe, is a NZ native grass that features long, strap-like leaves and grows as a clump to about 80 cm tall and 1.5 m wide. The plant is adorned with arching, red-brown flower heads in summer. Machaerina sinclairii is commonly used in revegetation and riparian plantings, mass planted on a bank, planted around larger trees and shrubs, or included in a cottage garden.

Machaerina sinclairii, commonly known as the Broadleaf Sedge or Pepepe, is a NZ native grass that features lush green foliage and interesting flower heads. It produces long, strap-like leaves and grows as a clump to about 80 cm tall and 1.5 m wide. The plant is adorned with arching, red-brown flower heads in summer which move gracefully in light breezes. This Broadleaf Sedge grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal conditions, wind, dry periods, and a wide range for soil types including heavy soils. Machaerina sinclairii is commonly used in revegetation and riparian plantings, mass planted on a bank, planted around larger trees and shrubs, or included in a cottage garden. Its hardy nature and attractive form, makes this a versatile plant and a welcome addition to a garden.
