Acaena microphylla is a ground cover that forms a dense carpet of green-bronze leaves to about 10 cm tall and 1 m wide. During summer and autumn, the plants bear bright red, burr-like flower-heads which are about 2 cm in diameter. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, wind, and coastal environments.
