Cotoneaster microphyllus, Small Leaf Cotoneaster, Little Leaf Cotoneaster
Cotoneaster microphyllus is a low growing shrub with a ground hugging growth habit. The branches are arranged in an interesting herringbone pattern and carry small and glossy, dark green leaves. Masses of small, white flowers are produced in summer and are followed by red berries which last through into winter. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 1.2 m wide. Cotoneaster microphyllus is commonly used as an attractive groundcover or mass planted on a bank. It also suits being included in borders, using in rock gardens, or planting so it can spill onto a path or over a retaining wall.
