Cotoneaster microphyllus is a low growing shrub with a ground hugging growth habit. The branches are arranged in an interesting herringbone pattern and carry small and glossy, dark green leaves. Masses of small, white flowers are produced in summer and are followed by red berries which last through into winter. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 1.2 m wide. Cotoneaster microphyllus is commonly used as an attractive groundcover or mass planted on a bank. It also suits being included in borders, using in rock gardens, or planting so it can spill onto a path or over a retaining wall.

Cotoneaster microphyllus is a low growing shrub with a ground hugging growth habit. The branches are arranged in an interesting herringbone pattern and carry small and glossy, dark green leaves. The leaves develop orange and red tones in autumn and in cool climates may be shed during winter. Masses of small, white flowers are produced in summer and are followed by red berries which last through into winter. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and 1.2 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, cool climates, wind, and coastal environments. Cotoneaster microphyllus is commonly used as an attractive groundcover or mass planted on a bank.
