Fuchsia procumbens variegata

Trailing Fuchsia, Fuchsia procumbens Variegata

Fuchsia procumbens variegata, commonly known as Trailing Fuchsia, is a NZ native that is often used as a trailing plant or ground cover. It has small leaves which are mottled green and white. These are held on slender stems which tend to creep across the soil and may develop roots as they contact the soil as it grows to 5 cm tall and 60 cm wide. It bears small, yellow flowers in spring which are followed by large, red berries. Fuchsia procumbens variegata makes a fantastic, soft looking groundcover that is perfect for planting around small to medium sized shrubs or for growing over rocks and tree debris.

Fuchsia procumbens variegata Details

Fuchsia procumbens variegata, commonly known as Trailing Fuchsia, is a NZ native that is often used as a trailing plant or ground cover. It has small leaves which are mottled green and white. These are held on slender stems which tend to creep across the soil and may develop roots as they contact the soil. It bears small, yellow flowers in spring which are followed by large, red berries that are great for attracting birds. This plant will typically grow to 5 cm tall and can spread 60 cm or more wide. It grows best on a consistently moist, semi-shaded, and sheltered site, and is tolerant of coastal environments, but does require frost protection. Fuchsia procumbens variegata makes a fantastic, soft looking groundcover that is perfect for planting around small to medium sized shrubs or for growing over rocks and tree debris. It also suits being planted so it can trail over a wall, being included in cottage and tropical themed gardens, or being maintained in a container.
