Tetragonia tetragonioides, Tetragonia Spinach, New Zealand Spinach Plant
Tetragonia tetragonioides is a leafy, NZ native groundcover that grows naturally along beaches amongst driftwood, in sand dunes, and on cliff faces and rock ledges. It has a trailing habit and will form a thick carpet on the ground or climb though other vegetation and hang downwards as it grows to 30-50 cm tall and 2 m wide. Tetragonia tetragonioides is commonly used as a hardy groundcover in coastal gardens, to cover banks, planted so it can trail over a wall or bank, or maintained as a trailing plant in a container.
