Vinca minor Atropurpurea is a variety of the commonly known, Periwinkle, and is an evergreen perennial which is commonly used as a ground cover. It features glossy, dark green leaves which are held densely on stems that creep along the ground. Through spring, showy, single, purple flowers adorn the plant as it grows to about 20 cm tall and 1 m wide. Vinca minor Atropurpurea is commonly used where a hardy ground cover is required and included in borders. It is also grown in a container or hanging basket where it can trail from.

Vinca minor Atropurpurea Details

Vinca minor Atropurpurea is a variety of the commonly known, Periwinkle, and is an evergreen perennial which is commonly used as a ground cover. It features glossy, dark green leaves which are held densely on stems that creep along the ground and take root as they grow. Through spring, showy, single, purple flowers adorn the plant. It typically grows to 20 cm tall and will up to 1 m wide but can be contained with trimming. This plant grows in almost any soil condition except at the extremes of wet and dry and thrives in shaded conditions. It is tolerant of frost, wind, and extended dry periods once established. Vinca minor Atropurpurea is commonly used where a hardy ground cover is required and included in borders. It can be mown to ‘freshen it up’ and will regrow again without issue. It is also grown in a container or hanging basket where it can trail from.
