Arenaria montana Details

Arenaria montana is a fantastic plant which is often used as a groundcover. It forms a cushion of green-grey leaves that will quickly fill in the spaces between stepping stones or trail down the sides of rock walls. The foliage is adorned with masses of pure white, cup shaped flowers from late spring until early autumn. It typically grows to about 25 cm tall and 50 cm wide, and grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of moderate frost and short periods of dry once established. Arenaria montana is a perfect plant for bordering paths, planting between flagstones, growing so it can trail down a retaining wall or from a container, including in rock or cottage gardens, or planting around outdoor living areas. The bloom power of this plant creates an impressive show that has tremendous impact when densely planted, and is even more spectacular when spring-flowering bulbs are mixed in.
