Coprosma acerosa Details

Coprosma acerosa, commonly known as the Sand Coprosma or Tātaraheke, is a NZ native shrub found naturally in coastal locations. It grows as a tight and tangled mound of short stems bearing tiny, brown-green foliage. This interesting plant typically grows to 30 cm tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It tolerates extended dry periods, wind, moderate frost, poor soils, and coastal conditions. Coprosma acerosa is an ideal plant for tough locations where it is often included in borders, used as a groundcover, or mass planted on a bank. Landscape designers will often use this Sand Coprosma to add a texture to a garden or provide an alpine look.

Coprosma acerosa Ground Cover spacing

Coprosma acerosa makes for a fantastic ground cover due its short stature and dense growth habit. The ideal spacing is 75 cm apart if you want a dense covering quickly. You can increase the spacing to 1.2 m apart if you have time but that may also involve a bit more weeding as you wait for the plants to merge.
