Coprosma prostrata is a NZ native shrub that is often used as a groundcover. It carries small and glossy, green leaves held densely on rigid stems. This evergreen typically grows to 50 cm tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, moderate frost, wind, and most soil conditions, except at the extremes of wet and dry. Coprosma prostrata is commonly used as a groundcover, particularly where a hardy plant for challenging growing conditions is required. This Coprosma also suits being planted on a bank or around the base of larger trees, or being included in a border.

Coprosma prostrata Plant Spacing

Coprosma prostrata makes a fine addition to a garden and it is important to have the correct plant spacing. Generally, they are planted to become discrete balls rather than merging. The ideal spacing is 1.5 m apart if you want Coprosma prostrata to be discrete plants. At a 75 cm spacing the plants will merge and become an effective ground cover.
