Muehlenbeckia axillaris, commonly known as Creeping Wire Vine or Pohuehue, forms a dense mat of wiry stems carrying tiny, glossy green leaves. Masses of small, cream-coloured flowers are borne through summer and result in small, white berries in autumn. This NZ native typically grows to 20 cm tall and 1 m wide. Muehlenbeckia axillaris is great for covering large areas such as a bank and makes for an effective and attractive ground cover.
