“Gayles Lilac” is a variety of Agapanthus that features showy, lilac-blue flowers from spring though summer. These are held as loose clusters on sturdy stems that rise above the foliage. This herbaceous perennial forms a tidy clump of green, strap like foliage as it grows to about 40 cm high and the same wide. It grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site and is tolerant of cool climates, moderate frost, dry periods, a wide range of soil conditions except extreme wet or dry, and some wind. “Gayles Lilac” is a versatile plant that can be used as a low maintenance option on drier sites or in situations with poor soil conditions such as a clay bank. It is also ideal for including in borders or mixed plantings, mass planting as a groundcover, adding to a cottage garden, or simply growing in a container. The most stunning displays with this plant are achieved when it is planted en masse.
