Aspidistra lurida Details

Aspidistra lurida, commonly known as the Cast Iron Plant, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its lush and colourful foliage. It grows as a clump and produces broad and glossy, bronze-green leaves. Small cream-red flowers are borne from spring through summer on short stems. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 60 cm wide and will spread slowly via its root system to colonise a larger area with time. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry and moderate frost once established. It may die back during winter but will regrow when conditions warm. Aspidistra lurida is ideal for including in borders or mixed plantings, growing in a container, growing around outdoor living areas, or mass planting either as a groundcover or on a bank.
