Clusters of large and showy, fiery orange-red flowers are borne on slender stems from winter through early spring. The lush and dark green, strap like leaves provide an impressive backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 90 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in partial shade on a well-drained site. It tolerates moderate frost, cool climates, and dry periods though should be protected while it is establishing. It may, however, under these conditions die back during winter to regrow when conditions warm.
