Clivia miniata Details

Clivia miniata is an herbaceous perennial grown for its impressive blooms. Clusters of large and showy, bright orange-red flowers are borne on slender stems from winter through early spring. The lush and dark green, strap like leaves provide an impressive backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in partial shade on a well-drained site. It tolerates moderate frost, cool climates, and dry periods though should be protected while it is establishing. It may, however, under these conditions die back during winter to regrow when conditions warm. Clivia miniate is commonly included in borders or mixed plantings, used in tropical gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or simply maintained in a container. This plant is forgiving, low maintenance, and easy to grow.
