They are held above the strap-like, green leaves which serve as a lovely backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, and moderate wind, and may die back during winter but will regrow again in spring.
