“Amethyst” is an herbaceous perennial grown for its gorgeous foliage. It features lush, wavy edged, burgundy leaves and typically grows to 40 cm tall and the same wide. Cream flower spikes rise above the foliage in summer and provide another interest. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of short periods of dry, cool climates, and moderate frost, though in these conditions it may die back during winter to regrow in spring. “Amethyst” is commonly used for adding colour, used to provide a contrast, included in borders or mixed plantings, or planted around outdoor living areas.
