Heuchera 'Marmalade'

How to grow Heuchera 'Marmalade' in NZ

Heuchera 'Marmalade' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil enriched with organic matter. Incorporate compost into the soil before planting to improve fertility and drainage. Water regularly during establishment and maintain even soil moisture during dry periods. Avoid planting in sites that remain excessively wet, as poor drainage can affect root health. A sheltered location will help maintain the vibrant foliage colouring and encourage strong growth throughout the year.

Heuchera 'Marmalade' care tips

Heuchera 'Marmalade' is easy to maintain and requires only simple care. Remove old or damaged leaves as needed to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage fresh growth. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage development and flowering. Water during prolonged dry weather, particularly for container grown plants. Mulching around the base helps conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Dividing mature clumps every few years helps maintain vigour and ensures the plant continues to perform strongly.

Heuchera 'Marmalade' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heuchera 'Marmalade' typically grows to around 0.3 to 0.4 m tall and spreads approximately 0.4 to 0.6 m wide. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually forms a dense mound of colourful foliage. Space plants around 0.4 to 0.5 m apart when creating borders or mass plantings. Adequate spacing encourages good airflow and allows each plant to develop its full shape. The vibrant foliage quickly creates visual impact and adds structure to planting schemes.

Landscaping uses for Heuchera 'Marmalade'

Heuchera 'Marmalade' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, container displays, and mixed perennial plantings. The warm foliage colours provide excellent contrast against green, silver, and purple leaved plants, adding depth and texture to landscape designs. This variety is particularly effective when planted in groups where the foliage colour can be fully appreciated. It also performs well beneath trees, along pathways, and around outdoor living spaces where year round colour and interest are desired.
