“Solar Eclipse” is an herbaceous perennial grown for its interestingly coloured foliage which is a dark purple with a lime green edge. Flower spikes emerge above the foliage in summer carrying small, bell-shaped, cream-white flowers. It typically grows to 25 cm tall and 40 cm wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of short periods of dry and in cold climates it may die back during winter to regrow again in spring. “Solar Eclipse” is commonly used for adding colour, used to provide a colour contrast, included in borders or mixed plantings, added to cottage and tropical gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like.
