Libertia ixioides Highlander

Libertia ixioides Highlander produces yellow, sword-like leaves which are complemented by white, Iris-like flowers in late spring. The flowers are borne amongst the leaves and result in bright yellow seed pods which are carried for two to three months. It grows as a clump to about to 60 cm tall and the same wide but will colonise a larger area with its spreading roots. Best performance with this plant is achieved when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Mikoikoi are tolerant of coastal conditions, cool climates, and a range of soil conditions, barring the extremes of wet and dry. Libertia ixioides Highlander is commonly mass planted, added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around the base of a larger tree, or planted anywhere a hardy, yet attractive plant is required. It also does well in a pot and suits planting around a pool or barbecue area.
