Aphelandra squarrosa, commonly known as the Zebra plant, is an elegant and popular indoor plant. It features fleshly leaves are variegated white and dark green, and held off sturdy stems. Yellow flowers may adorn the plant during summer. Indoors it generally grows to about 60 cm tall and 20 cm wide, but can grow to three times this size in tropical environments. Best results are achieved when it is positioned in partial with a well-drained soil, and protected from both drafts and cold. Aphelandra squarrosa is a fantastic plant for adding variety and colour, and for this reason it is often grown indoors and in offices. In tropical climates it is often added to mixed plantings.
