“Black Knight” is a very popular indoor plant owing to its dark and showy foliage. It grows as a clump and produces upright fronds which are thick, glossy, and near black in colour. The foliage can reach 60 cm tall and the 40 cm wide but is often much less than this when grown as a potted plant. This plant grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered, frost free site. It is tolerant of reasonable shade and extended dry periods which makes it ideal for growing indoors. It does not like cold or drafty positions, however. “Black Knight” makes for a wonderful pot plant and can be included in tropical plantings where conditions favour. It is great for offices, conservatories, or for placing on a shelf where something a little different is desired. NB: the leaves are very toxic to pets and people.
