Corylus avellana, commonly known as the Hazelnut tree or Filbert tree, is a deciduous tree grown primarily for its nuts. The nuts result from flowers borne in spring, just before the leaves emerge, and mature some six to eight months later. The foliage emerges glossy and mid-green in spring, ages to dark green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling as it grows to about 5 m tall and the same wide. Corylus avellana is commonly grown for its nuts and is often included into a mixed planting, used for screening and shelter, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, or trimmed into a hedge.

Corylus avellana, commonly known as the Hazelnut tree or Filbert tree, is a deciduous tree grown primarily for its nuts. The nuts result from flowers borne in spring, just before the leaves emerge, and mature some six to eight months later. The foliage emerges glossy and mid-green in spring, ages to dark green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows densely with a broad and rounded habit to about 5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun, noting that it is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Corylus avellana is commonly grown for its nuts and is often included into a mixed planting, used for screening and shelter, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, or trimmed into a hedge.
