Carex appressa, commonly known as Tall Sedge, is a NZ native grass commonly found in swampy areas. It features slender foliage which is dark green and held densely. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 60 cm wide, performing best on wetter soils in full sun or partial shade through it will grow well on better drained soils also. It also tolerates short periods of dry, moderate wind and frost, and shaded conditions. Carex appressa is a popular plant that is perfect for revegetating or enhancing wetland areas, planting around pond or stream areas, including in a mixed planting or border, or mass planting either as a groundcover or on a bank.
