Carex dipsacea is a NZ native grass that forms a dense mound of arching, lime green foliage. More interestingly, the foliage colour takes on bronze highlights in response to cooler weather and during dry periods. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, site in either full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal conditions, and heavy soils. This ornamental grass is commonly used in border plantings, mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank, or grown around water features such as ponds and streams. The most rewarding displays are achieved when it is planted en masse.
