Juncus pallidus Details

Juncus pallidus, commonly known as the Giant Rush, features erect, dark green leaves. The foliage is complemented with brown-red flower stems during summer. The roots are a mass of creeping rhizomes which enable it to colonise areas such as dune hollows, moist areas, and swamps. It grows as a tidy clump to about 75 cm tall and 50 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun on any soil that does not dry out. It is tolerant of frost, wind, coastal conditions, wet and boggy soils, and moderate shade. The Giant Rush is ideal for wetland revegetation, riparian plantings, or planting around ponds and streams. Juncus pallidus is also suited to urban planting where it works well in borders, mixed plantings, or anywhere a hardy and durable plant is required.
