Liriope muscari Big Blue, commonly known as Lilyturf or Monkey Grass, is grown for its lovely flowers and lush foliage. This herbaceous perennial grows as a tidy clump and produces strap like, dark green leaves. Flower spikes rise above the foliage through summer and autumn bearing masses of colourful, blue flowers. The flowers are long lasting and blend wonderfully with the foliage. It typically grows to 30 cm tall and 40 cm wide, growing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It tolerates cool climates, moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. During winter it may die back in colder regions to regrow in spring when conditions warm, but otherwise it remains evergreen. Liriope Big Blue It is an excellent choice for container growing, rock and cottage gardens, or border planting. This Liriope looks amazing when nestled amongst groundcover plants or smaller shrubs and gives the most impressive displays when it is mass planted.
