Laccospadix australasica

Atherton Palm

Commonly known as the Atherton Palm, this is a smaller palm grown for its lovely form and elegant foliage. The finely divided fronds emerge red-brown and age to become dark green. It often grows with a single trunk but can be grown as a multi-trunk plant too. This evergreen tree typically grows to 4 m tall and about 2.5 m wide, performing best when planted in partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant to very light frost once established and should watered during dry periods. The Atherton Palm is perfectly suited to residential gardens as it does not get too big and has wonderful aesthetics. It is also ideal for planting around outdoor living areas, using in tropical themed gardens, growing as a specimen, or adding to a mixed planting.
