Phoenix dactylifera Details

Phoenix dactylifera, commonly known as the Date Palm, this Palm tree that may reach 30 m tall and 8 m wide but often grows as a bushy clump to sizes about half this this with one or more stems. The dark green fronds are feathery in appearance, about 4-6 m long, and are held with a graceful arch. Orange fruits that age to red are produced in autumn amidst the foliage, adding further interest to the tree. It is typically grown in subtropical climates, usually around water features, and will tolerate a light frost once established. Phoenix dactylifera is commonly grown as a specimen, used to line a driveway or avenue, or added to a Mediterranean themed garden.
