Sabal palmetto, commonly known as the Cabbage Palm or Sabal Palm, is a large and popular Palm tree. It bears dark green, fan shaped fronds which are produced as a broad crown atop a solid, fibrous trunk. It is relatively quick growing and will eventually reach 20 m tall and 4 m wide, performing best when grown on a well-drained site in full sun. It is tolerant of coastal environments, moderate wind, dry periods, and mild frost though should be protected while establishing. Sabal palmetto is commonly included in tropical gardens, used in avenue plantings, or grown as a specimen in a part or large garden.
