Actaea Black Negligee, commonly known as Black Bugbane or the Black Snakeroot Plant, is grown for its impressive flowers and foliage. It produces fragrant, bottlebrush-like, pale pink-white flowers on slender stems in spring which rise above the foliage. The foliage comprises lush, purple-black leaves which provides a stunning contrast to the flowers. This herbaceous perennial typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 75 cm wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of moderate frost, coastal environments, and partial shade, though in this instance leaf colouring will be less intense.
