Actaea simplex Atropurpurea, Cimicifuga simplex Atropurpurea, Bugbane, Actaea atropurpurea
Actaea simplex Atropurpurea, commonly known as Bugbane, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its impressive flowers and foliage. In spring it produces bottlebrush-like, pale pink-white flowers on slender stems which rise above the foliage. The foliage comprises lush, brown-purple leaves which provides a great contrast to the flowers as it grows to 1.5 m tall and 75 cm wide. Actaea simplex Atropurpurea is commonly used in border or mixed plantings, maintained in a container, included in a cottage garden, or planted around larger trees and shrubs.
