Aechmea recurvata is a Bromeliad grown for its lovely foliage and flowers. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump and carries stiff and spiny, green-yellow leaves. The leaves may develop red tones when moisture stressed and during summer. The foliage is complemented during spring and summer with an impressive, rose-pink flower at its centre. The flower and the foliage complement each other nicely. Plants will typically grow to 60 cm tall and the same wide with best growth achieved when positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, dry periods, and cooler climates though it should be protected from frosts. Aechmea recurvata is ideal plant in borders, adding to mixed plantings, rock gardens, planting with succulents, or including in areas where a hardy plant is desired.
