Aechmea Royal Wine is a Bromeliad grown for its lovely foliage and flowers. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump and carries strap like, maroon-coloured leaves. The foliage is adorned during spring and summer with a large and showy, blue-purple flower. Plants will typically grow to 50 cm tall and the same wide with best growth achieved when positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, dry periods, and cooler climates though should be protected from frosts.
