Aechmea Royal Wine is a Bromeliad grown for its lovely foliage and flowers. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump and carries strap like, maroon-coloured leaves. The foliage is adorned during spring and summer with a large and showy, blue-purple flower. Plants will typically grow to 50 cm tall and the same wide with best growth achieved when positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, dry periods, and cooler climates though should be protected from frosts. Aechmea Royal Wine is ideal plant in borders, adding to mixed plantings, rock gardens, planting with succulents, or including in areas where a hardy plant is desired.
