Agapanthus africanus Details

Agapanthus africanus, commonly known as African Lily or Lily of the Nile, is a compact, evergreen, clump-forming plant that produces a bounty of stunning, light blue flowers as a large cluster through summer. The flowers are borne on solid stems above the foliage and contrast nicely with the strap like, dark green foliage. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Agapanthus are hardy plants and will grow well on heavier soils. They are also tolerant of cool climates, coastal climates, and dry periods. Agapanthus africanus is commonly included in border and mixed plantings, planted around outdoor living areas, used for cut flowers, or maintained in a container. A mass planting on a bank looks spectacular and is the best way to showcase this plant.
