Commonly known as Chives, this ornamental onion grows as an herbaceous perennial with short, green leaves. Slender stems, up to 20 cm tall, rise above the foliage in summer baring a cluster of small, light pink flowers. It typically grows to 35 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of coastal environments and cold environments with plants often dying back during winter to regrow when conditions warm. This ornamental onion is commonly included in mixed plantings, cottage gardens, or border plantings with a mass planting giving an exceptional display.
