Aspidistra elatior Details

Aspidistra elatior, commonly known as the Cast Iron Plant, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its impressive foliage. It grows as a clump and produces upright and broad, glossy, green leaves. The foliage is adorned from spring through summer with small, cream-purple flowers atop short stems. The foliage is the standout feature though. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 40 cm wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of cold environments, short periods of dry, and moderate frost once established. It may die back during winter but will regrow when conditions warm. Aspidistra elatior is ideal for border planting, growing in a container, adding to mixed plantings, or mass planting for a stunning display.
