Bergenia ciliata Details

Bergenia ciliata is grown for its foliage and flowers. This herbaceous perennial has large, glossy, deep green leaves which develop maroon tones in autumn. It grows to about 35 cm tall and 50 cm wide and in cold climates it may die back during winter to regrow again when conditions warm. It is incredibly hardy and will tolerate a wide range of soil and light conditions as well as frost and coastal environments, though best results are achieved when it is planted on a well-drained site in either full sun or partial shade. Bergenia ciliata is commonly used as a groundcover, included in borders and mixed plantings, grown in a container, or planted in the shady areas of the garden. A mass planting provides an impressive result.
