Chamaemelum nobile Details

Chamaemelum nobile, commonly known as Roman Chamomile, is an herbaceous perennial that features lovely flowers and aromatic foliage. It forms a mat of finely divided and feathery, green leaves which are aromatic when crushed or bruised. The foliage is complemented with masses of white and yellow, daisy-like flowers during summer and autumn. It typically grows to 15 cm tall and 30 cm wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of light frost only. Chamaemelum nobile is commonly used in borders and mixed plantings, or added to cottage gardens, but can also be used as a lawn substitute where it is mown periodically. It does not tolerate too much foot traffic, however. The flowers are also often collected for Chamomile products such as tea and the like.
