Cuphea micropetala Details

Cuphea micropetala, commonly known as the Candy Corn plant, is an herbaceous perennial that grows to about 1 m tall and the same wide carrying green foliage on red stems. It bears tubular flowers during summer and autumn that are yellow when they emerge but age to orange from the base up. The aging flowers produce a two-toned appearance. The plant will spread via underground storage roots and this reason it can be cut to the ground level in winter and will regrow in spring. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and dry periods. Cuphea micropetala is commonly included in mixed plantings, grown in a container, or mass planted for a lovely display.
