Geranium traversii grows as an open mat and will spread to about 80 cm wide and reach 50 cm tall. It has light green leaves and soft stems that creep slenderly across the ground. Small, pink flowers appear in spring and continue through until autumn. Geranium traversii is commonly used as a ground cover, particularly in coastal gardens, included in borders, planted to grow around and over rocks, or allowed to spill over a retaining wall.

Geranium traversii Details

Geranium traversii, commonly known as the Chatham Island Geranium, is an attractive, low-growing, herbaceous perennial. It grows as an open mat and will spread to about 80 cm wide and reach 50 cm tall. It has light green leaves and soft stems that creep slenderly across the ground. Small, pink flowers appear in spring and continue through until autumn and are followed by black-red seeds. This Geranium performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It tolerates coastal conditions and can be grown on sand dunes but does require frost protection. Geranium traversii is commonly used as a ground cover, particularly in coastal gardens, included in borders, planted to grow around and over rocks, or allowed to spill over a retaining wall.
